THE
PROG FRINCE: A RIBBETING MIXED-UP TALE
Orchard 1999
Written by Drew Lamm
Illustrated by Barbara McClintock
The fairy tale of the prince-turned-frog undergoes a transformation
of its own in Lamm and McClintocks' playful treatment. Jane, a literal-minded
girl, and a frog who snatches the dime she intends to purchase muffins
with, discover that they have a past that is more closely entwined than
Jane would ever imagine. This story in a story of love, an interfering
father (who also happens to be a king) and an anti-love potion gone
awry, all set in a classic, Jane Austen period English village with cobblestone
streets and shuttered cottages, is a charming pleaser.
